The 50 Best Restaurants in the World list for 2019 is here. World 50 Best Restaurants had some awaited Restaurants at the top but we also found some surprises on the list of the World's 50 Best Restaurants this year.
We thought that Swedish Restaurant Frantzén would be up there at the top - but it was kind of a bummer that they "only" made it to nr 21? Well, here's the Top 10 and where you probably would be traveling if you travel for food and especially if you're into Fine Dining!

Axpe, Spain - the Home of Asador Extebarri
But first some words on the Bronze position! Sticks & Spoons have eaten at a couple of the restaurants on the Top 10 list (and some more on the Top 100 Best Restaurants List!) but one that especially Spoons have seen rising on the list in the last years - with satisfaction to say the least - is Asador Extebarri!
Climbing from 10th place in 2018 to number 3 this year is a well-earned acknowledgment!
Spoons have visited twice and both of the experiences have been pure epiphany! Eating at Extebarri is "true cooking”, with a focus on the "raw" ingredient, and a kind of "naked" approach in the minimalistic presentations. But the result is beyond great.
Care and respect for the ingredients together with years and years of experience bring forward the best and the unexpected in every dish. Smoke, grill, and fumes are important to taste bringers in all the dishes - even desserts.
Fire is the very essence of all cooking - bringing heat to an ingredient, forcing it to change, evolve and bloom to become something else - and at Extebarri, Chef Victor Arguinzoniz is a magician with Fire! For instance; the taste is a simple Green Pea Soup that can reveal multiple layers and levels, images of burning leaves in a corner of the garden, combined with scent memories of flowers, hay, and wet grass! (true story!)!
I can't wait to bring Sticks to this Magical Place of Fire! She will LOVE it!
"12-year-old milk cow - and probably the best meal I've eaten in my life so far!" (Spoons)

One thing to mention is of course Noma; what a great "re-entry" on the list! We bet they are a little bit disappointed not reaching the "Pole Position" but...they certainly have a clear goal for next year's list! And a sure entry on our personal Restaurant Bucketlist too!
Great to see two positions from Restaurants in Denmark in the Top 10 by the way, a country we love to visit. And talking about that; which restaurants have Sticks & Spoons visited on the Top 100 list? Let us find out!

We often do Food Travel. And we love all kinds of food; everything from simple Streetfood to Fine Dining. These are the Restaurants we have visited, with links to our Restaurant Reviews, on the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the World!
#3 Asador Etxebarri, Axpe, Spain. Spoons have visited twice; in 2012 and 2013, and especially the first time was a fantastic food memory when we got a tour by Chef Victor Arquinzoniz after the Tasting Menu. We talked a lot about everything from Swedish and Spanish Cuisine to the Importance of the Wood Logs size when doing "asador" to the recipe for the amazing smoked and reduced milk ice cream. We also had a tour in 2013 behind the scenes and had the opportunity to have a look at the spectacular kitchen once again.
#4 Gaggan, Bangkok, Thailand. We had an amazing dinner at Gaggan Progressive Indian Cuisine in Bangkok on our first Thailand Trip together as Sticks & Spoons!
#7 Mugaritz, San Sebastián, Spain. Spoons visited in 2012 and it has stayed as one of the best restaurant experiences ever since.
#53 Arzak, San Sebastián, Spain. Another Spoons visit back in 2013 with friends.
#56 Relae, Copenhagan, Denmark. Sticks & Spoons went for an interesting Tasting Menu at Relae in 2016 that challenged our tastebuds - we'll write a review soon!
#87 Martin Berasategui, Lasarte, Oria, Spain. Spoons visited in 2013 with friends.
